Team India skipper Rohit Sharma put speculation of his retirement to rest at an event in Dallas on Sunday, July 14. Rohit helped the Men in Blue end their 13-year World Cup and 11-year ICC titles drought by leading the team to T20 World Cup 2024 triumph by defeating South Africa in the Final in Barbados on June 29.

After India's second T20 World Cup title, Rohit announced his retirement from the T20Is for India as he wanted to end his career in the shortest format with the prestigious title. However, there were reports and speculations that Rohit Sharma might call its quits from international cricket, given his age.

In a video posted by Vimal Kumar on its X handle (formerly Twitter), Rohit Sharma said he will continue playing for a few more years. The 37-year-old added that he is not thinking about the future as he wants to focus on the present.

"I just said it. I don't do that far ahead. So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while." Team India skipper said at the event.

Rohit Sharma led Team India to three consecutive ICC finals, including World Test Championship, ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup. Last year, India failed to win the WTC title and ODI World Cup triumph after losing both finals against the same opponent, Australia. After years of several setbacks in ICC tournaments, Team India finally lifted the coveted T20 World Cup triumph.

Jay Shah confirms Rohit Sharma as India captain for WTC and Champions Trophy

Before Rohit Sharma, BCCI secretary Jay Shah already dismissed the reports of the veteran opener's retirement by confirming that he will be leading Team India in the ongoing World Test Championship and next year's Champions Trophy.

Jay expressed his confidence in Team India winning the WTC Final and Champions Trophy next year under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.

"I am confident that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC Final and the Champions Trophy." BCCI secretary

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is likely to extend his break from cricket following T20 World Cup triumph as he is likely to be rested for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. The 37-year-old won't be available T20I leg of Sri Lanka tour as he retired from the format at international level.

Rohit is expected to return to the action for the three-match Test series against Bangladesh in September.
