'Yeah Leylah': Young Fan's Ecstatic Reaction Viral After Leylah Fernandez's Lovely Gesture During Her US Open 2025 Doubles Match; Video

A young fan was ecstatic as Canadian Tennis player Leylah Fernandez gave him a high-five during the US Open 2025 doubles match teaming up with Venus Williams to take on Ekaterina Alexandrova and Zhang Shuai at the Louis Armstrong Stadium. The fan energetically yelled 'Yeah Leylah' as the commentator praised her gesture.

Taking on Alexandrova and Shuai in the Round of 16 encounter, Fernandez and Williams won 3-6, 4-6 to progress to the next round. The pair will face Taylor Townsend and Katerina Siniakova in the quarter-final on September 2.

"I love that you love tennis" - Leylah Fernandez on Venus Williams

The 22-year-old Canadian spoke in an on-court interview after the match, suggesting that she feels extremely privileged to be in the same team as Williams. As quoted by BBC Sport, Fernandez claimed:

"Seeing you play on court with the same big smile you had back then is so inspirational and motivates me to keep going. I love that you love tennis."

She further said, as quoted by Olympics.com:

"I have full confidence in Venus, and I hope she has full confidence in me during our match. We're just going out there, playing our game: Be offensive, aggressive and ready for the ball."

Williams is a highly-accomplished player in the field of tennis, winning the Grand Slam singles on seven occasions, followed by clinching the doubles title 14 times. The 45-year-old is playing her 25th US Open. The veteran had notably won the first of her two doubles title in US Open with younger sister Serena in the year 1999, three years before Fernandez took birth.
