Wriddhiman Saha Retires From All Forms Of Cricket After Getting Out On Duck In His Final Ranji Trophy Match Against Punjab

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Saturday, following the ongoing Ranji Trophy matches.

Wriddhiman Saha played his final match against Punjab in the Ranji Trophy, where he was dismissed for a duck. However, Bengal won the game by an innings and 13 runs. During the match, Saha was honored with a guard of honor, marking his farewell from cricket.

In a heartfelt note on social media, Saha reflected on his cricketing journey, expressing gratitude for the sport that shaped his life. He acknowledged the highs and lows of his career and stated that it was time to move on. He now looks forward to spending more time with his family and beginning a new chapter.

Saha also thanked his parents, brother, wife (Romi), children (Anvi and Anvay), and in-laws for their constant support. He also appreciated his coaches, mentors, teammates, and staff from various teams, including the Indian national team, Bengal, Tripura, and IPL franchises like KKR, CSK, Punjab Kings, SRH, and Gujarat Titans. He gave special thanks to his childhood coach, Jayanta Bhowmik, for recognizing his potential early on.

Wriddhiman Saha’s international & domestic career

Saha made his international debut in 2010 and played 40 Tests and nine ODIs for India. After MS Dhoni’s retirement in 2014, he became India's primary Test wicketkeeper before Rishabh Pant replaced him. His last international match was against New Zealand in 2021.

In the IPL, Saha played for multiple teams, with his most memorable performance coming in the 2014 final, where he scored 115 runs off 55 balls for Punjab, though they lost to KKR. With his retirement, Saha closes an illustrious chapter in his career and steps into a new phase of life.
