Team India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant was strangely seen setting the field for Bangladesh in the opening Test on day 3 at the Chepauk in Chennai. In a video that surfaced on social media, the commentator observed how Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto followed Pant's instructions and moved the fielder to the set position.
The left-handed batter has already had his moments in the ongoing opening Test as he got involved in a scuffle with Bangladesh keeper-batter Litton Das. Meanwhile, on day 3 while batting, Pant was seen giving Shanto instructions about the field setting and the 26-year-old also duly obliged to the same.
Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant near their centuries on day 3:
Meanwhile, both Pant and Shubman Gill went unbeaten to lunch 86 and 82 at the Chepauk Stadium. The home side began the day at 81/3 and added 124 runs in the first session. Pant had notably received a reprieve from Shanto, who missed a skier after the southpaw mistimed one off Shakib Al Hasan.
Despite losing three wickets by stumps at day 2, the hosts held a commanding 308-run lead. After Bangladesh bowled India out for 376, all the tourists could manage was 149 on the board. Jasprit Bumrah was the chief destroyer with four wickets, while Akash Deep, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj bagged two apiece. India are also at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings, having won six matches out of nine.
