Haas F1 Team Breaks Barriers: Laura Mueller Becomes F1's First Full-Time Female Race Engineer

Haas has made history by promoting Laura Mueller to the role of Race Engineer for their new recruit, Esteban Ocon, making her the first full-time female to hold this prestigious position in Formula 1. Mueller steps up from her previous role as Performance Engineer and will play a crucial role in Ocon’s inaugural season with Haas.

The Race Engineer serves as the primary link between driver and team, managing both on-track communications and performance strategies. Mueller’s promotion comes as part of Haas’s broader restructuring, which also includes Carine Cridelich joining as Head of Strategy from Racing Bulls.

Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu praised Mueller’s work ethic and determination, describing her as the ideal match for Ocon. “Laura is very hardworking and determined. She doesn't stop at the first solution; she digs deeper, which is crucial for problem-solving in F1,” said Komatsu. He added that her personality aligns well with Ocon’s driven approach.

Mueller joined Haas in 2022, working initially in their simulator department. Her promotion reflects Haas’s focus on strengthening their team as they aim to build on their seventh-place finish in last year’s constructors’ championship.

The team has also appointed Francesco Nenci as Chief Race Engineer and Mark Lowe as Sporting Director, signaling their commitment to evolving their technical and operational structure ahead of the 2025 season.
