ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match between Australia and South Africa was called off due to persistent rain, with both teams earning a point. South Africa remains on top of Group B with three points and a net run rate (NRR) of +2.140, while Australia is second with an NRR of +0.475.
Scenarios after AUS vs SA match washed-out
If both teams win their final group matches Australia against Afghanistan and South Africa against England they will qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, tomorrow’s match between England and Afghanistan is a must-win for both teams.
The loser will be eliminated, while the winner must win their next game to secure a semi-final spot. This means one of the two upcoming matches Australia vs. Afghanistan on Friday or South Africa vs. England on Saturday could act as a virtual quarter-final.
Despite the washout, South Africa’s captain, Temba Bavuma, earlier said the team was excited and confirmed that Heinrich Klaasen was fit and ready to play.
Both teams had won their opening matches. South Africa dominated Afghanistan with a comprehensive 107-run victory. Australia, meanwhile, pulled off a stunning comeback against England.
After England posted a record Champions Trophy total of 351/8, thanks to Ben Duckett’s 165, Australia chased it down with 15 balls to spare, led by Josh Inglis’s century and sensational knock by Alex Carey.
