On Thursday at around 2.30 pm, the four shops constructed in 2004 collapsed and fell on the shops on the ground floor. As the plaster of the upper shops was falling gradually, the traders got alert and vacated the shops. Hence, a major mishap was averted. All the people in the shops vacated the shops as they sensed the danger of the falling building. As a result, no casualties were reported in the incident. However, the traders incurred heavy losses.
On receiving the information, Tehsildar Vidyacharan Kawadkar, Municipal Council CEO Rishikesh Bhalerao, Prashant Deshpande, Rajendra Sonar, Ramesh Thorat, PSI Naser Pathan, and other officers rushed to the spot.
Earlier, the Municipal Council CEO and Tehsildar had issued notices to the traders in May 2025 to vacate the building due to its dangerous condition. However, no one had vacated the shops. The council again directed the concerned traders in this regard on June 15, but there was no response from the traders.
When the incident occurred, there were around 100 people on the upper floor of the complex in various shops. As one portion of the building collapsed, these people were rescued from the other side, the sources said.
