The Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) Property Tax Department has collected ₹2,365.31 crore in FY 2024-25, falling short of the target of ₹2,847.23 crore. However, the collection has surpassed the previous year’s total of ₹2,273 crore.
According to the data, around 12.5 lakh properties fall under the tax net within PMC limits. Nearly 50% of citizens pay the tax before May 31, helping the civic body generate a revenue of around ₹1,000 crore in the first quarter of the fiscal year itself. However, many residents do not pay their taxes, and the PMC has to employ various methods to collect the outstanding amounts.
This year, the civic body has extended the deadline to pay property tax at discounted rates till June 30, offering relief to some citizens.
In order to recover the amount, the Property Department deployed special teams, including women’s and band teams. In the final stage, authorities expedited case resolutions to encourage tax payments, overcoming technical hurdles.
Meanwhile, for the second consecutive year, the Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) Building Permissions Department has generated more revenue than the Property Tax Department, which has traditionally been the civic body's primary revenue source.
According to the data, in FY 2024-25, the Building Permissions Department collected ₹2,601.88 crore, exceeding the set target of ₹2492.84 crore. In FY 2023-24, the department generated ₹2407.26 crore, significantly more than the target of ₹1604.84 crore.
