Pune News: Customs dept seizes 1kg of Meth in crackdown under NDPS Act; 4 arrested

Pune: In a successful operation, the Narcotics Cell of Pune Customs arrested four individuals and seized over 1 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 5 crore, officials said on Wednesday.

The interception of a vehicle at a toll plaza near Pune led to the seizure of 850g of the drug, while a follow-up seizure near Lonavala resulted in the confiscation of an additional 200g. The arrested individuals were connected to a drug trafficking racket. The case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

850gm contraband found in vehicle

The Customs Department in Pune had received confidential information regarding the smuggling of a significant quantity of methamphetamine from Satara to Mumbai. After verifying the intelligence, the Customs team took necessary measures to intercept the illicit activity.

The operation began with the search for the suspects in a black-colored Ford Endeavor from Satara. The search concluded when the team intercepted the vehicle at the Khed Sivapur toll road. During the interception, a moment of confusion occurred at the toll booth, leading to the apprehension of two individuals inside the car. A search of their possession revealed 850 grams of methamphetamine.

Another 200gm contraband seized in Lonavala

Upon questioning, the detainees disclosed that they were en route to meet their two accomplices in Lonavala.

Acting swiftly, the Customs Department apprehended the remaining two individuals in Lonavala and seized approximately 200 grams of drugs from them.
