To stop the tourists from being misled and cheated by some horse traders at the entrance to Matheran, the people of Matheran followed up with the administration, but since it was unsuccessful, the Matheran Paryatan Bachao Sangharsh Samiti (Save Tourism Struggle Committee) has finally taken up the weapon of Matheran bandh. It has been called for an indefinite bandh in Matheran until the Matheran administration stops the cheating business. As the discussions with the administration on Monday were fruitless, the people of Matheran are firm on their stand of bandh.

Issues raised on Feb 27

Matheran is known as the most popular tourist destination in Raigad district. People from many areas come to work at this tourist destination for their livelihood. Among them, there are also handcart pullers, coolies, and horsemen who come from Karjat taluka to earn their livelihood. The Matheran residents are alleging that some of these horsemen mislead and cheat tourists. A tourist who came here even posted his anecdotes on social media.

"The administration here should take action against the horsemen who are defaming the beautiful Matheran. For this, an indefinite shutdown has been called for Matheran," the committee added.

On February 27, a statement of this agitation was given to the Revenue Department, Municipality, Forest Department, and Police Administration. A meeting was called on Monday in this regard, but the committee noticed that the demands made by the committee were ignored.

The Matheran Bachao Sangharsh Samiti expressed its displeasure as the administration has not taken this seriously. As the administration has not taken any action despite giving 19 days, the Matheran Bachao Sangharsh Samiti has finally decided to keep Matheran closed indefinitely, and Matheran will remain closed indefinitely from March 18.
