The government has ordered an investigation into Nashik Municipal Corporation's (NMC) Health Department Medical Officers Dr Tanaji Chavan and Dr Shete. The order says that Dr Chavan should be transferred and investigated, while Dr Prashant Shete should be investigated. Both reports should be submitted to the government within 15 days, says the order. This has created a stir in the NMC.
Officials from NMC informed that a committee will be formed under the chairmanship of the health commissioner and a report will be submitted to the government within the next 15 days. During the inspection at Dr Pandya Hospital in Mahatma Nagar, pills and medicines used for abortion were found. It was also revealed that the hospital had not renewed its licence. A case was registered against Pandya Hospital in this case. However, Health Officers Dr Chavan and Dr Shete were accused of negligence in this case.
There was a lot of uproar during the recent Assembly session over this issue. Shiv Sena MLC Manisha Kayande had raised this issue. Regarding this issue, Health Minister Prakash Abitkar had ordered an inquiry into the entire matter. Accordingly, on Wednesday, April 9, the government ordered a thorough inquiry into the matter. As Dr Chavan was on a deputation in the NMC, it has been cancelled and he has been sent to his original service, ie, the reference hospital.
