Bad News For Punekars: Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Unlikely To Start Before Next Year |
In bad news for Punekars, the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Line, also known as the Puneri Metro, will not likely start before next year.
As per a report by ToI, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (PMRDA's) Metro Line 3, connecting Shivajinagar and Hinjewadi, has missed its earlier deadline of September 2025.
Senior officials of the agency told the newspaper that the they have requested a deadline extension to December 2025 to execute the project, and coach trial runs could only begin after December.
The trial runs of the metro usually take at least two months before regular operations.
Last week, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase chaired a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the development of the Hinjewadi Industrial Area, where it was said that 90 percent of the work of the project is done.
Earlier in March, all the land required for the Maan-Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar Metro Line-3 project was made available. The project required 263.78 sq. m. of land near the Raj Bhavan office in the Pune University area. A proposal was submitted for this in November 2022. With the approval of the transfer of this land by the Raj Bhavan office, the entire land required for the metro project is now available.
This metro project is 23.203 km long and is being implemented on the basis of a Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The project was approved by the government on February 9, 2018.
This 23.3 km-long Line 3 will not only enhance daily commutes but also boost development and ease traffic congestion across the city. Meanwhile, in good news for commuters, Maha Metro and PMRDA are in talks to construct a foot overbridge (FOB) to connect the Civil Court and Shivajinagar Metro stations.
