‘Who Do You Think You Are?’: Doctor Allegedly Beaten by Patient’s Son in Kalyan - VIDEO

A doctor was allegedly assaulted at a private hospital in Maharashtra’s Kalyan, weeks after a woman doctor was attacked by a Shiv Sena corporator in a separate incident, raising fresh concerns over the safety of medical professionals.

Orthopaedist Dr Yogendra Jaiswal was allegedly abused and beaten by the son of a patient around 11 pm on Saturday while he was examining a man with a rib fracture. According to Jaiswal, he had explained the treatment procedure, including bandaging and medication, but the patient’s son repeatedly asked the same questions and addressed him in an informal and disrespectful manner.

When Jaiswal objected to the way he was being addressed, the man allegedly questioned his status as a doctor, stepped outside and abused him. He later returned and allegedly assaulted the doctor.

A police case has been registered in connection with the incident, although no arrest has been reported so far. Jaiswal has demanded strict action.

It comes weeks after Kalyan-Dombivli Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre was allegedly caught on camera assaulting a woman doctor and other hospital staff in Dombivli. Mhatre had denied attacking the doctor and refused to apologise.

Jaiswal said doctors spend years training to save lives and should not have to face violence while performing their duties.
