Mumbai: A Ganesh idol reportedly lost its balance and fell on devotees during the arrival procession of Bhuleshwarcha Raja in Mumbai’s Bhuleshwar area late Saturday night, leaving two people dead and five others injured.

Viral Video Shows Chaos After Tragedy

A viral video of the incident posted by local news portal, Mumbai TV, captures the panic and chaos that erupted at the spot, with devotees seen rushing towards the fallen idol to rescue people trapped underneath. Several people can be seen making desperate attempts to lift the massive idol, while others gather around the scene in shock.

According to the BMC Disaster Management Cell, the incident took place at around 9:50 pm near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk on Balaram Merchant Road in Bhuleshwar. Devotees were carrying the idol of Bhuleshwar Cha Raja when it reportedly became difficult to handle and suddenly lost balance.

The video shows the situation turning chaotic within moments of the idol falling, as people scramble to reach those underneath and pull them out. Emergency teams were later alerted and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Details On The Casualties

According to hospital updates, Sanket Nevshe, 33, was declared brought dead at Reliance Hospital, while Brijesh Hemant Joshi, 30, was declared brought dead at GT Hospital.

Three injured persons were admitted to GT Hospital. Vaibhav Ghenand, 38, and Pawan Chaurasiya, 25, were reported to be in stable condition. Three others, five-year-old Lavanya Ganer, seven-year-old Divya Ganer and 26-year-old Kunal Kashid, were admitted to JJ Hospital and were also reported to be stable. No injured persons were reported at Saifee Hospital. In total, the incident left two people dead and five injured.

The accident occurred during the Ganesh Aagman procession, when large crowds gather to welcome Ganesh idols ahead of the festival. The viral footage has brought the scale of the panic at the spot into focus, while authorities are expected to ascertain what caused the idol to lose balance and whether adequate safety arrangements were in place.
