Palghar, Maharashtra: In a late-night operation, the Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) confiscated approximately 3,500 kg (3.5 tonnes) of banned plastic bags from the Waliv area under G Ward.
The raid, conducted around midnight on August 8, was led by Senior Sanitation Inspector Vikas Patil. Along with the seizure, a fine of ₹5,000 was collected from the offenders.
The action was carried out under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Manojkumar Suryavanshi and Additional Commissioner Sanjay Herwade, following orders from Deputy Commissioner Archana Dive and Assistant Commissioner Neeta Kore.
Junior Sanitation Inspectors Vinod Patil, Ganesh Gharat, Kedar Chavan, and Abhishek Kadam, as well as marshal Jitesh Thakur, were present during the operation.
VVMC officials stated that strict action against the use, storage, and sale of prohibited plastic items is ongoing and that similar drives will continue to curb violations.
