Thane: 4 teenagers drown in water tank of Kondeshwar Shiv Temple in Ambernath

Thane: In a tragic incident on Friday at around 1:30 pm four teenagers drowned in a water tank in Ambernath while celebrating a birthday party.

The boys had gone for a walk and wanted to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends named Akash Raju Zinga (19). They were at Kondeshwar Shiv Temple where the tragedy occurred after they went for a swim inside a water tank. 

How the events unfolded

A police officer from Kulgaon police station said, "On Friday afternoon the boys dived into the water tank of a temple for a swim. However, they (Akash Raju Zinga (19), Suraj Salve (19) and Linus Bhaskar Uchchapawar (19) failed to anticipate the depth of the water and started struggling inside the tank. Their friend Pratik Hate and Swayam Manjarekar (18) jumped into the tank to save them. All the three boys struggled and even Manjarekar was dragged into the water."

Police officer further added, "Praveen Hate managed to return to the safety and he informed the locals who later called us."

"All the four deceased were residents of Kamraj Nagar in Ghatkopar (East) and were college students. We have registered accidental death report and further investigating in the case to find out whether they were intoxicated in any manner and related aspects is on," informed the police.

The bodies of all the four were fished out from the water tank in the evening and after their autopsy they will be handed over to the respective families, said the police.
