Thane cops bust fake currency note racket; Rs 8 crore seized, 2 nabbed

Thane police busted a fake currency racket on Saturday, November 12 near Gaimukh Chowpatty in city. The police have arrested two persons in connection with the case and have recovered Rs 8 crore worth of fake currency.

The police told media that around 10 am on November 11, the accused persons were going to Ghodbunder Road near Gaimukh Chowpatty to print fake currency notes.

The cops had received a tip off about the same and accordingly they formed a group under the guidance of a senior police officer and conducted a search at the location at 10.40 pm on Friday.

The accused Ram Hari Sharma (52) and Rajendra Raut (58) both residents of Palghar were arrested with a total of 400 notes of Rs 2,000 denomination which amounted to Rs 8 crore.

During the interrogation, the accused revealed that the counterfeit notes were printed in Palghar using a computer and printer and were brought to Thane with the help of a man named Madam Chauhan.

The cops have registered a case against the accused under sections 489 (A) [counterfeiting, any currency or banknote], 489 (B) [punishment for trafficing counterfeit notes] and 489 (C) [Possession of forged or counterfeit currency] and 34 [ criminal act committed by several persons with common intent] of the Indian Penal Code.
