Over the past five months, the Panvel City Traffic Police have taken strict action against 1,513 motorists for various traffic violations. These motorists were fined for offenses such as not wearing seatbelts, using black film on car windows, entering no-entry zones, and riding motorcycles without helmets.
Drives Under Supervision
The special drives were conducted under the guidance of Tirupati Kakade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (traffic), and executed by Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Nale of the Panvel City Traffic Branch.
The Panvel City traffic unit has announced that they will continue these drives in the coming days, aiming to penalize more motorists who disregard traffic rules and regulations.
Helmet Safety and Enforcement
While public awareness campaigns stress the importance of wearing helmets for two-wheeler riders, the focus of the drive is on those intentionally violating this rule. In the last five months alone, 456 motorbike riders were fined for not wearing helmets. Officials emphasize that helmets provide crucial protection, significantly reducing the risk of head injuries during accidents.
Penalties for Other Violations
The traffic unit's enforcement efforts extend beyond helmet violations. During the special drives, they also penalized 167 car drivers for not wearing seat belts, caught 86 vehicles for jumping signals, fined 180 cars for using black film on window glasses, issued 491 fines for parking in no parking zones, and charged 22 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Awareness and Prevention
In addition to imposing penalties, the Panvel City Traffic Police conducted awareness programs among motorists to emphasize the importance of safe driving practices and accident prevention. Violations such as triple seating on two-wheelers and driving in no-entry zones were also addressed during the drives.
By combining strict enforcement with awareness initiatives, the Panvel City Traffic Police aim to ensure road safety and encourage responsible driving behavior.
