Navi Mumbai: 86-year-old man assaulted in Airoli old age home by staffer, case registered; horrifying video surfaces

Victim suffering from memory loss, cannot recall the assault; 19 senior citizens residing at old age home

A horrifying video surfaced on social media platforms from an old age home where an elderly man was being physically assaulted by a staffer. The incident took place at Sai Care Old Age Home located at sector 4 in Airoli.

A caretaker of the old age home Santosh Ketkar was seen slapping an 86-year-old man. Ketkar is now under police custody for questioning.

While the incident took place around a week ago, it came to the notice of the management of the old age home on Monday after videos of the incident went viral on social media. In videos, Ketkar was seen slapping the old man for not following his directions. The video was recorded from outside on a mobile by an unknown person.

A Twitter user, Raj Maji, shared the video, writing, "A shocking video has surfaced in the social media. Sai Care Center Airoli Navi Mumbai Where old age home group D-59 situation is bad. Senior citizens, old poor people come to old age homes. There they are forcefully beaten which we all can see in this video how the old man is threatened there and he is beaten to sleep."

He also tagged Navi Mumbai Police's official handle and urged them to take strict action.

Representatives of old age home came to know about the incident from the video viral on social media

One of the representatives of the old age home Rashmi Haram said that they came to know about the incident from videos that were being circulated on social media.

“We reported the matter to the police and the caretaker is being questioned,” said Haram. She added that Ketkar was working in the centre for the past five to six months. “We have no idea whether he assaulted other senior citizens in the past. However, this incident has revealed his face,” she said. Currently, there are 19 senior citizens residing at the old age home, the representative added.

The victim is suffering from memory loss and he cannot recall the assault. Meanwhile, the Rabale police have booked the person under the relevant sections.
