Man molests 12-year-old girl during New Year celebrations at city hotel; booked

 A 12-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a man during new year celebrations at a five-star hotel in suburban Juhu here, police said on Monday.

According to the police, the girl had come to the hotel with her parents on New Year's Eve and the 29-year-old accused was also present there.

The girl and the accused were on the dance floor around 3 am on Sunday, when the latter allegedly touched her inappropriately, an official said.

The girl informed her parents about it and the hotel staff was alerted. The accused was nabbed even as he tried to flee the scene, he said.

MRVC explores idea of phasing out non-AC locals

 The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) has appointed a consultancy firm to look into the ifs and buts of the idea of completely phasing out non air-conditioned (AC) locals. Another plan to be explored is the introduction of 15-rake air-conditioned (AC) local trains on the suburban railway network.

Currently, 79 AC services run on the Western line and 56 on the Central section, and all of them are 12-rake. Meanwhile, the Railway Board has already approved the procurement of additional 238 AC locals having 12 rakes each.

The consultancy firm started the work from Dec 2. It will work on the idea of phasing out non-AC locals with least inconvenience to commuters. “Consultant will develop a comprehensive plan, including proposed time table, rake links and stabling plan, for complete migration to AC local trains,” said MRVC spokesman Sunil Udasi.

BMC invites tenders for installing smoke dispersing mechanisms in civic hospitals

The BMC has invited tenders to install a mechanism which throws smoke out if a fire erupts in hospitals. This mechanism will be installed at Sion, Nair and KEM hospitals with an expenditure of Rs12.57 crore. The BMC commissioner has given approval for the proposal recently.

Ihas been noticed that during a fire, smoke hinders visibility and creates obstruction in the rescue operation. Even, many people die due to inhaling smoke.

The new mechanism will increase visibility during a fire and will help the fire brigade officials to douse the fire.
