Mumbai: Fire Breaks Out In Building At Colaba Causeway; Video Shows Massive Blaze On 5th Floor
A major fire broke out around 8 am on Thursday in a Colaba Causeway building, triggering panic in the busy South Mumbai locality. Videos showed flames and smoke coming from a fifth-floor flat in a ground-plus-five-storey structure. BMC and Mumbai Fire Brigade officials reached the spot and the fire was extinguished within minutes.

Mumbai: A fire broke out at a residential building near Colaba Causeway on Thursday morning, triggering panic in the busy South Mumbai locality. The blaze was reported at 7:55 am at Kismat Building, located opposite Sasoon Dock on Shahid Bhagat Singh Marg. A 50-year old resident suffered minor burn injuries in her right hand in the incident, however, her condition is stable, officials from disaster management cell said.
In a swift response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the blaze was extinguised at 8.12 am.
"The fire erupted on the fifth floor apartment of the ground plus five storeyed building, and was confined to electric wiring, electric installation, wooden furniture, eatables, curtains etc. in an area about 200X100 ft in room no 2. A female person aged about 50yrs sustained minor burn injury to right fingers, she refused to go to hospital," report from the disaster management cell said.

Although the exact cause of the fire is yet to ascertained, the local residents say it started from the air conditioning (AC) unit, thereby reminding to get the AC units regularly serviced, specially during the extreme heat. The Mumbai Fire Brigade too had issued advisory that electrical appliances should be maintained and serviced regularly during the ongoing hot summer as it may cause fire incidents.
