Mumbai: A 17-year-old mentally challenged minor girl in Ghatkopar was allegedly raped by three minor boys who even filmed the abhorrent act. The crime came to fore on Thursday night when the victim’s brother found a clipping – of her sister getting raped inside a toilet – on Instagram, the police said on Saturday.

The girl’s father approached the Ghatkopar police on Friday evening and narrated the entire matter to them in the presence of the victim. The cops immediately registered a first information report (FIR) against the three suspected minor boys named by the girl’s father and brother. The Free Press Journal has a copy of the FIR.

Accused sent to Dongri’s children’s correction home

According to the victim’s statement, she left her house to go to a nearby public toilet at around 10 pm on Jan 13. The trio apparently followed her and once she reached the entrance of the public toilet, they dragged her inside and shut the door.

The first accused, a 14-year-old raped the victim, while the 15-year-old boy shot the entire act on his mobile phone. Meanwhile, the third accused, a 17-year-old, later uploaded the video on Instagram. The loathsome visual was spotted on Jan 19 by a friend of the victim's brother, who immediately informed the latter about it.

“On Jan 19, when I was about to eat my dinner, my son came to me and started crying. When asked what the matter is, he said that a video has been going around on Instagram where the local boys are doing bad things to his sister,” said the father in his police statement.

After identifying the suspects, the police booked all three minors who confessed to the crime on Friday night. They have been sent to Dongri’s children’s correction home,” confirmed Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Dahake.

The trio has been booked under relevant sections, including those for rape and gangrape, of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Information Technology Act.

Efforts are on to take down the video from the social media platform, the police added.
