Mumbai: 15-Foot Ganesh Idol Topples In Kurla While Being Taken To Dharavi; 2nd Incident After Bhuleshwar Cha Raja Collapse
A 15-foot Ganesh idol collapsed during an arrival procession near Sheetal Talav in Kurla West on Tuesday evening, causing panic but no fatalities. One person suffered minor injuries. The idol, belonging to the Om Shakti Foundation Ganesh Mandal, toppled when its trolley lost balance while crossing a speed breaker. The incident comes days after two people died in a similar South Mumbai accident.

A 15-foot Ganesh idol collapsed during an arrival procession near Sheetal Talav in Kurla West on Tuesday evening, triggering panic among devotees and residents. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although one person sustained minor injuries. The Kurla incident is the second reported case this year of a Ganesh idol collapsing during an arrival procession in Mumbai.
According to the police, the idol Prem Nagarcha Maharaja belonged to the Om Shakti Foundation Ganesh Mandal from Prem Nagar in Dharavi. The 15-foot idol had been prepared in Ghatkopar and was being transported to Dharavi in a grand procession.

At around 6.45 pm, while the trolley carrying the idol was being pulled near Sheetal Talav, it reportedly lost balance while crossing a speed breaker. The idol toppled onto the road. Santosh Jaiswal, who was near the trolley, suffered minor injuries and was given first aid at Bhabha Hospital, police said.
The incident caused panic and a brief commotion among devotees and onlookers. Police personnel deployed for security immediately intervened, dispersed the crowd and brought the situation under control.
In view of religious sentiments and to prevent any untoward incident, police and the local administration coordinated with the organisers and the idol was subsequently immersed as per ritual in the nearby Sheetal Talav.

The latest incident comes days after a tragic accident during the arrival procession of the 22-foot ‘Bhuleshwarcha Raja’ in South Mumbai’s Bhuleshwar area.
The incident took place at around 10 pm on August 22, 2026, near Jai Ambe Chowk on Balaram Merchant Road. Two persons mandal president Sanket Nevse, 33, and Brijesh Joshi, 30, died after the idol collapsed. Five others were injured in the accident.
