'Modi, Modi vs Thackeray, Thackeray' Chants Erupt In BMC As Ritu Tawde Becomes Mumbai's 77th Mayor - WATCH

Mumbai: BJP corporator Ritu Tawde was officially announced as the 77th mayor of Mumbai on Wednesday noon, amid loud chants of 'Modi Modi' by ruling party corporators.

In the visuals shared, Sena UBT corporators raised chants of “Thackeray, Thackeray,” reaffirming their loyalty to the Thackeray leadership, while in response, the BJP corporators are seen raising slogans of “Modi, Modi and Deva Bhau."

Not just this, the Congress party, which won 24 seats in the BMC, entered the civic house wearing a mask on their face to protest against the deteriorating air quality in Mumbai.

The 227 seater BMC house is now filled with 89 BJP corporators and 29 of Shiv Sena (Shinde). The BMC house located in old building at the headquarter in Fort, it's premises and roads outside are coloured in saffron flags, and BJP corporators left no stone unturned to display it's show of strength inside the house.

The election of Mayor was graced by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai BJP President Ameet Satam and other BJP leaders like Pravin Darekar, Chitra Wagh, Manoj Kotak and others. The BJP has fulfilled it's 30-year old dream to install its mayor in Mumbai, ending the dominance of Shiv Sena-led by UBT.

Tawde scripted history by becoming second mayor of Mumbai from BJP, and the first woman mayor from the party. The contest was one sided as opposition has not fielded any candidate.

The BJP-Shiv Sena corporators visited Hutatma Chowk taking blessings for the leaders who sacrificed their lives for the city. 

After Tawde was announced as the mayor, Shinde Sena's Sanjay Ghadi was announced as the deputy mayor.

After three decades, the Shiv Sena UBT corporators will be sitting in the opposition.
