MMC Resumes Registration Of BHMS-CCMP Doctors After Maharashtra Withdraws Temporary Halt Order

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) on Monday resumed registration of BHMS doctors who have completed the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP), after the state government withdrew its August 18 order temporarily halting the process. By evening, Dr Rajashri Arun Memane and Dr Mayuresh Ramesh Kamble were registered with the MMC.

The move paves the way for eligible BHMS-CCMP practitioners to practise modern medicine within the scope permitted under the CCMP framework. The government cancelled its August 18 order on August 20, allowing the MMC to restart registrations.

The first registration was issued to Dr Neha Pawar on August 4, making her the first CCMP-qualified homoeopathy practitioner to receive conditional MMC registration.

The issue has triggered opposition from the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and resident doctors, with the matter pending before the Bombay High Court.

Registration halt triggered protests threat from BHMS-CCMP doctors

After one doctor was issued registration and the process was halted by MMC, citing technical issues, BHMS-CCMP doctors had threatened protests, including an agitation at Jantar Mantar, while one practitioner reportedly threatened self-immolation outside the MMC office. With registrations resumed, the proposed protests have been dropped.

IMA Maharashtra State President Dr Santosh Kulkarni criticised the government’s “contradictory orders” and said the decisions had created confusion while the matter was before the court and an SOP committee was working with the IMA, MARD and MMC. He demanded that the Medical Education Minister and Principal Secretary take moral responsibility and resign.

“If the registration of BHMS-CCMP doctors with the MMC is not stopped immediately, IMA will approach the Bombay High Court with a contempt petition. If the government fails to act, we will be compelled to launch a statewide democratic agitation,” Kulkarni said.

Meanwhile, Central MARD president Atharva Shinde said the organisation’s stand remained unchanged, with patient safety its priority. “This is not a retreat. Our fight will continue through legal remedies, public awareness and a united nationwide movement. We have respected the Bombay High Court’s directions and ensured that emergency and life-saving services remain uninterrupted. We will now take the issue from the streets to the courtroom and the national platform,” he said.
