Mumbai: A man allegedly forcefully entered the ladies’ compartment of a local train at Bandra on Saturday and reportedly refused to get down despite repeated objections from women passengers and commuters travelling in the adjacent general compartment. The incident sparked safety concerns after the man allegedly turned aggressive and later pushed a female passenger while exiting the train at King’s Circle station.
According to an account shared by the Instagram page ‘_tulikajain_’, the man boarded the women’s coach and allegedly became loud, hostile and stubborn when passengers asked him to leave. Even male passengers travelling in the neighbouring compartment reportedly shouted at him to vacate the coach, but he allegedly refused to comply.
Visuals from the video shared show the man arguing with the women on the train, they are heard telling him to exit the train while he absolutely refused to do so, saying that he would exit a Khar. The women then object as Khar station was before Bandra and the train was moving towards CSMT.
Passengers also claimed that attempts to seek immediate assistance failed. Calls made to the railway helpline number 1512 allegedly went unanswered, while the emergency talkback system installed inside the coach was reportedly found to be non-functional during the situation.
The situation allegedly escalated as the train approached King’s Circle station. The commuter claimed that the man forcefully pushed a female passenger while making his way out of the crowded compartment before fleeing the train.
The incident has raised serious concerns over commuter safety, particularly regarding women travelling on Mumbai’s suburban railway network. Passengers expressed concern that the outcome could have been far more serious had only a few women been present inside the compartment.
The alleged failure of emergency response mechanisms has also triggered questions over the functioning of passenger safety systems inside suburban train coaches. Commuters have urged authorities, including Mumbai Police and railway officials, to take note of the matter and strengthen safety measures to prevent such incidents from escalating into more serious situations.
