A landslide occurred on the Mumbra bypass road in Thane district on Monday at around 11:30 pm affecting the vehicular movement on the route on Tuesday morning, said an officer from the regional disaster management cell (RDMC).
"The boulder crashed near a temple on the Mumbra bypass road on Monday at around 11:30 pm. No one was injured in the incident," Yasin Tadvi, RDMC chief, Thane said.
The incident happened at the stretch between Mumbra Devi Temple and Human Temple of Mumbra.
"The traffic on the Mumbra bypass was affected till Tuesday morning. Local firemen and disaster management team rushed to the spot after being alerted and worked through the night to remove the boulder and stone fallen on the road.
"After hectic efforts, the blockade was cleared by 9 am on Tuesday and traffic movement was restored. The district has been receiving heavy rains for the past few days," Tadvi added.
Similar landslide reported last year
It is pertinent to note that this is not the first instance of a landslide at the said road.
Last year, a landslide occurred on Mumbra bypass road due to intermittent rains and the visuals of the same had surfaced on social media. No one was injured in the incident.
