Mumbai: With the IPL 2022 season having arrived in the city, Mumbai Police will provide a green corridor to the buses plying players and staff from their hotels to the stadium and vice versa, to ensure a congestion-free, smooth and quick ‘commute’ for them. While the league matches will be played at the Wankhede Stadium and Brabourne stadiums, both in south Mumbai, at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the MCA Stadium in Pune, Mumbai Traffic Police will be escorting the players’ buses to provide a green corridor only within Mumbai city limits and will later pass the baton to the traffic police of the respective cities’ jurisdictions, said a senior traffic officer.
Mumbai Traffic Police will coordinate with their counterparts in Thane, Navi Mumbai and Pune, to ensure that there is smooth traffic movement. Considering the travel time to reach each of these stadiums from the hotels where the players are boarding at, police have prepared specific, time-bound security plans and the necessary logistical support is also being obtained, said an officer.
Each team will be escorted by a team comprising traffic police personnel and Mumbai Police whenever they travel for IPL games or practice sessions. Police will also monitor the signal system on the route of teams and no route will be blocked for the movement of teams.
