Mumbai: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from Andheri (West), Ameet Satam, has been appointed as the new President of the Mumbai unit of the BJP. The move comes as part of a major organizational reshuffle ahead of the crucial Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.
The decision was formally announced on Monday morning after incumbent city unit chief Ashish Shelar stepped down following the completion of his extended three terms and his appointment as a Cabinet Minister in the Devendra Fadnavis-led Mahayuti government last year.
Fadnavis Expresses Confidence
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence that Satam’s appointment would strengthen the BJP in Mumbai.
“Satam has been a three-term MLA, is well-versed with Mumbai’s pressing issues, and has consistently displayed strong leadership. Under his stewardship, I am confident that BJP will maintain its winning momentum and reclaim power in the BMC,” Fadnavis said at the state BJP headquarters.

Taking charge, the 49-year-old legislator thanked the party leadership for the responsibility.
“I express my deep gratitude to the leadership for showing faith in me. Along with infrastructure, housing, and mobility, the safety and security of Mumbaikars will remain my top priority. Any attempt to change the colour of Mumbai will be thwarted,” Satam asserted.
Vows to Hoist Saffron Flag Over BMC
Vowing to install a Mahayuti mayor in the BMC, Satam declared:
“We will work towards hoisting Mahayuti’s saffron flag atop the BMC headquarters. BJP workers will reach every doorstep in the city, seeking blessings for a corruption-free, development-driven administration inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision and guided by Devendra Fadnavis.”
Showcasing Infrastructure Achievements
Satam also listed key infrastructure milestones achieved in Maharashtra since 2014 under Fadnavis’s leadership, including the Mumbai Coastal Road, Atal Setu, Metro projects, Navi Mumbai International Airport, citywide CCTV surveillance, and housing reforms for slum dwellers, along with affordable housing initiatives for the lower and middle-income groups.
Sharp Attack on Opposition
Launching an offensive on the Opposition, Satam alleged massive irregularities during past BMC administrations.
“There has been corruption worth ₹3 lakh crore in the BMC between 1997 and 2022. The BJP is committed to freeing the civic body from these corrupt clutches and ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficient governance,” he said.
