Five decades of Rath Yatra tradition in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is not hosting the Rath Yatra for the first time, but the cultural staple dates back to 1977. This year’s 50th-anniversary celebration honoured the original ISKCON pioneers who organised the very first parade five decades ago.

The Rath Yatra, organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), is a major annual celebration dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. The festival features colourful chariots, devotional music, chanting and large gatherings of devotees.
