Soothe Cough & Regain Strength With These Ayurveda's Home Remedies

Cough and weakness often go hand in hand, especially when the body is fighting an infection or is out of balance. While medicines can help ease the symptoms, Ayurveda aims to restore the body's natural balance and address the root cause. Acharya Balkrishnaji, the co-founder of Patanjali Ayurved, shares Ayurvedic insights into these conditions, along with easy home remedies and the appropriate Patanjali products for relief.

Why do we cough and become weak?

If you have a cough followed by fatigue, there is a possibility that you are suffering from an underlying respiratory ailment, such as a bacterial or viral infection like the flu. If left untreated, these conditions can lead to asthma and other serious health problems.

According to Ayurveda, cough and weakness are caused by an aggravated Vata dosha and the accumulation of toxins in the body. Together, these reduce your energy reserves, or ojas.

You can follow the Ayurvedic remedies suggested by Acharya Balkrishnaji and use the relevant Patanjali products to help manage these conditions.

4 Ayurvedic Home Remedies to Treat Cough and Resultant Weakness

Black Pepper + Almonds + Unrefined Sugar: Acharya Balkrishnaji says, "This solution is nourishing, acts as both a tonic and a medicine, and is suitable for people of all age groups." Take 20 g of black pepper, 100 g of almonds, and around 200 g of unrefined sugar. Grind them into a fine powder and store the mixture in an airtight container. If consuming it three times a day, take one teaspoon each time. If taking it twice a day, take two teaspoons per serving. Consume it in the morning and evening with warm water or milk. According to Acharya Balkrishnaji, this remedy helps relieve even chronic cough, soothes throat infections and soreness, and helps overcome weakness.

Patanjali Almond (Badam) (250 Gms) is rich in fibre, which supports digestion and helps relieve constipation, acidity, and bloating. It is also a good source of vitamin E, magnesium, and riboflavin.

Mulethi Tea: Mulethi is a rejuvenating herb that helps reduce phlegm and relieve cough. It also soothes irritated airways, reduces tiredness, and supports energy levels. Steep mulethi root in hot water for a few minutes and drink the decoction while it is still warm. It helps reduce mucus and provides relief from an inflamed or sore throat.

Ginger and Honey Stimulant: Ginger is a well-known herb that helps soothe throat irritation, loosen mucus, and relieve cough. Honey helps suppress cough and provides natural energy. Mix one teaspoon of ginger juice with one teaspoon of honey and consume it to soothe the throat. Patanjali Honey (50 Gms, 100 Gms, 250 Gms, 500 Gms and 1 Kg) is a blend of honeydew and blossom honey. It is rich in natural sugars and minerals.

Jaggery Solution: Jaggery provides natural energy and helps loosen mucus, making it easier to clear the airways. It also helps boost haemoglobin levels. Grate a small piece of ginger and mix it with a small amount of jaggery. Warm the mixture before consuming it for better results. Alternatively, add jaggery to tulsi tea as a natural sweetener. Patanjali Madhuram Sugar (Jaggery Powder) (1 Kg) is a natural sweetener with a rich caramel flavour and retains its natural minerals. It can be used in the suggested remedies.

Patanjali ffers Ayurvedic products that support the management of cough and weakness. Divya Kanthamrit Chewable Tablet (6 Gms) contains mulethi, sonth, baheda, black pepper, mint, and cloves. It helps provide relief from cough and sore throat.

You can also opt for Patanjali Jaggery (Gur) Chyavanprash (750 Gms) to support energy and overall well-being. It contains jaggery and more than 30 botanical extracts, including bilva, draksh, goksura, guduchi, haritaki, pippali, punarnava, ashwagandha, shatavari, and more.
