Low Haemoglobin? Ayurveda Suggests 6 Natural Remedies To Try
Fatigue, weakness and easy bruising could signal low haemoglobin or platelet levels. Ayurveda recommends herbs, juices and dietary changes using ingredients like beetroot, giloy, amla and wheatgrass to naturally support blood health.

Look deeper, and the underlying causes behind symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, breathlessness, and easy bruising are often low haemoglobin or platelet counts. Yoga guru Swami Ramdev Baba, co-founder of Patanjali Ayurved, explains the reasons behind their decline, the impact on overall health, and shares Ayurvedic tips along with Patanjali products that may help improve these levels.
Understanding Haemoglobin or Platelets
Haemoglobin is an oxygen-carrying protein found in red blood cells that helps maintain the body’s energy levels. Platelets, on the other hand, play a crucial role in blood clotting and the repair of injured blood vessels. Their levels can decrease due to conditions such as leukaemia, autoimmune disorders, severe infections, and chemotherapy.
Common signs of low haemoglobin include constant tiredness, dizziness, general weakness, pale or yellowish skin, headaches, cold hands and feet, breathlessness, and even heart-related complications. People with low platelet counts may experience frequent bruising, prolonged bleeding, blood in the stools or urine, and heavy menstrual bleeding.
According to Ayurveda, low haemoglobin is referred to as ‘Pandu Roga’, a form of anaemia caused by an imbalance in the Pitta Dosha, which affects both the quality and production of blood. Low platelet count is associated with Raktapitta and blood impurities, resulting from aggravated Pitta and Kapha doshas.
Ayurveda links these conditions to poor digestion, which leads to toxin accumulation that interferes with healthy blood formation. Other contributing factors include dosha imbalances, stress, and dietary habits such as excessive consumption of sour, salty, and spicy foods. Here are some simple Ayurvedic remedies, along with Patanjali’s offerings, that may help support healthy haemoglobin and platelet counts.
6 Ayurvedic Ways to Boost Haemoglobin or Platelet Count
Herbal Decoctions: Swami Ramdev suggests, “Make a juice of pomegranate, carrot, and beetroot. Mix one or two dates, raisins, and figs, as per digestive ability. If suffering from Kapha tendency, also mix a little ginger and basil.” This combination helps improve both haemoglobin and platelet counts naturally. Patanjali Fig (250 Gms) is rich in minerals and vitamins that support heart and bone health, help maintain blood sugar levels, and prevent constipation. Its iron content may also help increase haemoglobin levels and combat anaemia.
Wheat Grass: Rich in chlorophyll, wheat grass has a molecular structure similar to haemoglobin. Its abundance of vitamins A, B, and E, along with antioxidants, minerals, and nutrients, helps support red blood cell production and improve haemoglobin levels. It is also known for its blood-purifying properties. Patanjali Wheat Grass Powder (100 Gms) helps boost immunity and digestion, detoxify the body, fight anaemia, and support healthier skin
Giloy: Ayurveda values giloy for its blood-forming and immunomodulatory properties. It may help increase platelet production while strengthening immunity. Rich in iron and minerals such as calcium and phosphorus, giloy also supports haemoglobin formation. Additionally, it helps cleanse the blood and improve the quality of plasma and blood tissues. Patanjali’s Divya Platogrit (34 Gms), made with giloy, aloe vera, papaya, pomegranate, and palak, is formulated to support platelet count, improve immunity, fight anaemia, and aid digestion.
Aloe Vera: In Ayurveda, aloe vera is known for its blood-cleansing and rejuvenating qualities. Nutrients such as vitamin B12, folic acid, and iron support healthy blood formation, while its antioxidant content helps protect platelets from oxidative damage and encourages the production of healthy blood cells. Patanjali Amla-Aloe Vera with Wheatgrass Juice (500 ml) supports immunity, helps cleanse the blood and body, and promotes better energy and stamina.
Other Ayurvedic Herbs: Amla, rich in vitamin C, helps improve iron absorption in the body. Ashwagandha supports the production of red blood cells and enhances energy levels, while shatavari aids healthy blood flow and blood formation. Divya Haemogrit Vital (36 Gms) contains herbs such as amla, bhringaraj, and giloy, along with spinach and carrot. It helps improve haemoglobin levels, enhance blood quality and circulation, strengthen immunity, combat anaemia, and boost energy.
Dietary Options: Including beetroot and leafy vegetables in the diet can help increase haemoglobin levels due to their high iron and folic acid content. Ghee is considered beneficial in Ayurveda for nourishing blood tissues. Soaked black sesame seeds are also recommended, as their iron and mineral content may help improve both haemoglobin and platelet counts.
Patanjali Beetroot Vinegar (500 ml) supports immunity and metabolism, help regulate blood pressure, and assist in improving haemoglobin levels.
Low haemoglobin and platelet counts can affect overall health and energy levels, but Ayurvedic practices and dietary changes may help support healthy levels naturally. Along with these remedies, Patanjali’s Ayurvedic products are designed to help maintain healthy haemoglobin and platelet counts.
