CBI court denies default bail to Anil Deshmukh, his two 'aides' in corruption case

A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday rejected the bail pleas of NCP leader Anil Deshmukh and his two co-accused.

The pleas were filed on the ground that the chargesheet filed by the CBI within the stipulated 60-days time after arrest was incomplete.

The trio had claimed that since the full chargesheet was not filed as required, they were entitled to be released on bail.

Deshmukh had claimed in his plea that as per media reports the agency had merely submitted a 59-page synopsis before the deadline.

The CBI had opposed the pleas and submitted before the court in its response that while there was a delay in submitting certain documents along with the chargesheet, that the chargesheet was filed within the stipulated time.

It said that mere delay in submitting documents relied on by it, cannot entitle them to default bail when the chargesheet has been filed in time.

The CBI has alleged that Deshmukh made illegal collections from the city's resto bars during the lockdown for letting them operate at flexible timings. Palande and Shinde aided him in the collections, it alleged.

Dismissed policeman Sachin Vaze who purportedly made the collections on instructions of Deshmukh, has turned an approver in the case last month and will be testifying against the trio.
