Disha Salian case: Narayan Rane, son Nitesh Rane approach Bombay HC to quash FIR by Mumbai Police

Union Minister Narayan Rane and his son Nitesh Rane has approached Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the FIR filed against them in connection with the case registered against them for allegedly making defamatory remarks and spreading false information about Disha Salian, late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s former manager.

According to the FIR registered by Malvani police, some remarks were made by the Union minister on February 19 in a press conference, where his son was also present. During the press conference, the minister had made certain claims regarding Salian’s death.

Salian had allegedly committed suicide by jumping off a high-rise in suburban Malad on June 8, 2020, six days before actor Rajput (34) was found hanging at his apartment in suburban Bandra.

Their plea states that no case is made out against them as alleged by the complainants if the FIR is read at its face value.

“The present FIR is politically motivated with malafide intention to harass the present petitioners and stop them from doing their work for a social cause,” the plea read.

Recently, sessions court at Sindhudurg had granted bail to Nitesh Rane in an attempt to murder a case against him.

One of the bail conditions was to 'not commit any offence' as that would lead to 'cancellation of bail'.

The petition stated that the present 'malicious prosecution of political rivalry' was to harass the petitioners.

The plea read: “The possibility of registration of the present crime with an ulterior motive to create ground for cancellation of bail by the Sessions Judge cannot be ruled out.”

Aggrieved, Ranes have filed a petition seeking quashing of the FIR on the ground that severe inequities and inconveniences would be suffered because of the FIR which is nothing but an abuse of process and attempt to violate their fundamental rights.
