Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Three cattle have been killed by a leopard in the forests of Mhow and Manpur area of Indore district over the last four days.
While the body of one cow has been recovered, the search for the other cow and a calf is still underway.

Rains these days have helped greenery to spread rapidly in the forests due to which the nearby farmers are sending their cattle to the forest for grazing. But due to the greed of this greenery, the lives of the cattle are now in danger.

The forest department has found dragging marks on the forest land which makes it clear that the leopard has taken them with itself. However, the dead bodies or other remains have not been recovered yet. Forest workers say that searching in this dense greenery is very risky and one can encounter a leopard at any time, so the search operation is going on with full vigilance.
Compensation is decided by postmortem.
Farmers are given compensation for cattle killed by leopard, which is decided on the basis of postmortem report (PM report). The age of the cattle is confirmed by postmortem and the amount of compensation is decided accordingly. If the cow is dead, then according to its age, the farmer gets compensation of Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000. On the other hand, if the calf is about 3 years old or less, then the compensation is Rs 8,000.
