Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A major mishap was averted in the Banganga area after a man allegedly set a car and two motorcycles on fire to avenge an earlier assault. Timely intervention by residents prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby house where a family was asleep.

According to police, the suspect siphoned petrol from a motorcycle using a pipe and used it to set vehicles on fire. The blaze caused panic as smoke entered a nearby house, trapping a family inside. The occupants, who were sleeping on the first floor, began suffocating as the cooler drew in smoke. They managed to reach the terrace in time and escaped unharmed.

Banganga police station in-charge Siyaram Gurjar said a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) on the complaint of Ravindra Pal, a resident of Vrindavan Colony. Police examined CCTV footage and identified the suspect as Shiva Gaur, who was later arrested.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly said he committed the arson to take revenge after being assaulted. Police said he first set a car parked outside a garage on fire, then siphoned fuel from a motorcycle and ignited it. Another nearby motorcycle was also damaged in the fire.

In a separate incident, a motorcycle parked near Limbodi Gate in the Tejaji Nagar area was gutted after catching fire late on Wednesday night. Police are investigating the cause.
