West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Slams 'Kesari Chapter 2' For Misrepresenting Freedom Fighter Khudiram Bose

Kolkata: On the death anniversary of freedom fighter Khudiram Bose, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday once again slammed makers of the Bollywood film Kesari Chapter 2 for allegedly misrepresenting Bengali revolutionaries.

Taking to X, Mamata said that the change in the movie is ‘an attack on the Bengali language and also an insult to the freedom fighter.’

“Let me write something. Recently, in a Hindi film, revolutionary Khudiram was referred to as 'Singh.' Why are those who gave their lives for independence being insulted? Will language-terrorists now drag the name of the pioneering immortal revolutionary Khudiram as well? Our indomitable youth from Medinipur has been portrayed as a boy from Punjab. Unbearable! But we have always paid tribute to this man, a symbol of patriotism and supreme sacrifice,” wrote the West Bengal Chief Minister.

Mamata further said, “For development of Mahabani and its surrounding areas, steeped in the memory of Khudiram Bose’s birth, we have established the Mahabani Development Authority. Not only in his birthplace, Medinipur, but to honor this great revolutionary, we have also named a metro station in Kolkata after him. We are proud.”

Notably, in June, an FIR was registered against the producers of the film at Bidhannagar South police station for allegedly insulting the freedom fighter of Bengal. In the movie Barindra Kumar Ghosh was referred to as ‘Birendra Kumar’ from Amritsar.

Khudiram Bose was the country’s youngest freedom fighter who was hanged on August 11, 1908, at the age of 18 for the role he played during the Muzaffarpur bomb blast.
