Video: Massive Fire Breaks Out In Hotel Near Railway Station In Patna; 6 Dead, 15 Critically Injured
As it stands, the fire extinguishing operation is still underway. Reports further suggest that 12 people have been rescued so far and sent to PMCH.
Patna: Six people were charred to death and at least 15 others sustained burn injuries when fire broke out at a four-storey hotel near Patna railway station on Thursday at around 10.45 am.
Details of Incident, Rescue Efforts And Casualties
Police said prima facie it appeared that the fire originated from an LPG cylinder in the hotel kitchen as it engulfed the hotel building in a short span of time. While some people staying on the higher floors saved their lives by escaping through the windows, fire tenders rescued more than 40 people from the hotel, which had virtually turned into an inferno.
Police said that the deceased could not be identified immediately. The injured were rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital where the condition of two of them was stated to be critical.
While confirming six deaths, Patna City Superintendent of police (Central) Satya Prakash said the fire was prevented from spreading to buildings adjoining the hotel. He said that the deceased included three women.
Fire Department's Vigilance Efforts And Chief Minister's Condolences After Hotel Fire Tragedy
State Fire Department Director General Shobha Ohatker claimed that the department had been conducting regular fire audits. She said that special attention was being given to crowded areas as public awareness was also being constantly raised to prevent such incidents. Prima facie it happened due to a cylinder blast, she added.
Condoling deaths, chief minister Nitish Kumar commented in ‘X’, “It is sad that six people died in a fire incident at Hotel Pal near Patna Junction. Instructions have been given for proper treatment of the injured. I wish for their speedy recovery. I pray to God to give strength to the family members of the deceased to bear this grief.”
