Tamil Nadu: CM Stalin orders CB-CID probe into gang rape case, ensures maximum punishment
In another case, a young woman in Virudhunagar was blackmailed by her boyfriend, who had filmed her nude and was sexually assaulted by seven of his friends, which included four schoolboys.
Two separate cases of horrifying sexual crimes, shockingly involving some minor boys too, have rocked Tamil Nadu in recent days with chief minister M K Stalin telling the Legislative Assembly that maximum punishment would be secured for the accused.
While one incident pertains to a Nirbhaya-type gang-rape of a doctor in Vellore in north Tamil Nadu, another involved the blackmail and serial sexual abuse of a young Dalit woman in Virudhunagar in the southern part of the state.
The gang-rape of the doctor, who hails from Bihar and works in a reputed missionary run hospital in Vellore, came to light with the accidental arrest of three men and two juveniles who were creating a ruckus in a drunken state on Tuesday.
Giving details of the case, the chief minister said the accused during interrogation had led the police to a shocking case of abduction and gang rape.
The doctor was returning to the hospital with her male colleague, who hails from Nagpur in Maharashtra. On the night of March 16 after watching a film, when an auto-rickshaw driver offered to drop them off. The driver misled them to believe that four others were in the vehicle were co-passengers. Thereafter, he had driven the vehicle to a secluded spot where three of them including two juveniles gang-raped her, while the other accused beat up the colleague. The accused also robbed them of cash and jewels.
“The woman had returned to Bihar but on Tuesday lodged an online complaint with the Vellore police,” Stalin said. All the five accused in the case have been arrested.
In another case, a young woman in Virudhunagar was blackmailed by her boyfriend, who had filmed her nude and was sexually assaulted by seven of his friends, which included four schoolboys.
The sexual assault continued for several months after the victim finally recently lodged a complaint on the basis of which all accused including a DMK local functionary were been arrested.
“The Virudhunagar case has been transferred to the CB-CID. We will deal with this as a model case and ensure that the accused get maximum punishment through a quick trial,” the chief minister said.
