Kolkata: Continuous heavy downpour has thrown normal life out of gear for the people of North Bengal.
Red Alert Issued
Issuing a red alert for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri, the IMD has asked the state administration to take necessary action as there are possibilities of landslides and further inundation due to the incessant downpour.
Notably, according to the local MeT department, the water levels of the Teesta, Jaldhaka, Dayna, Leesh, and Gheesh rivers have risen. On Sunday, dredging was also carried out in the Dayna river.

According to the IMD bulletin, Kumargram in Alipurduar received the highest rainfall of 16 cm till Sunday morning.
The IMD also said that very heavy to heavy rainfall will continue in North Bengal till July 2, while South Bengal is expected to receive moderate rainfall.
