Punjab Elections 2022: Home Minister Amit Shah offers prayers at Durgiana Temple in Amritsar; addresses rally in poll-bound state

Union Home Minister & BJP leader Amit Shah on Sunday visited Amritsar and offered prayers at Durgiana Temple.

The Home Minister is in Punjab campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state Assembly polls.

Amritsar is one of the most important districts in poll-bound Punjab, comprising 11 Assembly constituencies in the Majha region.

Earlier in the day in Ludhiana, Amit Shah questioned the fitness of state Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi about running Punjab, citing the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's convoy at Ferozepur.

Shah, meanwhile, also promised that if the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is voted to power, it would set up branch offices of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in four districts to curb the menace of drugs abuse.

He also took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying he had the audacity to claim curb drugs scourge from Punjab when he drowned the national capital in alcohol by opening liquor shops everywhere.

“After drowning the entire country in Delhi, how can Kejriwal stop drugs in Punjab,” the Union Minister asked.

Shah said that the people of Punjab have already given multiple chances to the SAD and Congress, and now they should give a chance to the BJP if they want the place to be in safe hands.

Addressing a rally in Patiala on Sunday, Shah said, “I urge the people in Punjab to give a chance to PM Modi and BJP government. We will eradicate drugs from Punjab. Our goal is to make Punjab drug free. I want you to choose a government that will work together with the Centre for the development of Punjab.”

Punjab goes to polls in a single phase election on February 20. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
