Major Tragedy Averted As 5 Suspected Terrorists Arrested By Crime Branch For Planning Blast In Bengaluru; Explosives Seized |

Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested 5 suspected terrorists on Wednesday. They have been identified as Syed Suhel, Umar, Janid, Mudasir and Zahid. It is suspected that the team had planned to carry out a blast in Bengaluru. All five were accused in a 2017 murder case and were in Parappana Agrahara Central Jail where they came in contact with the terrorists. CCB has also seized explosive materials, the team confirmed in a statement.

During the seizure, 4 walkie-talkies, 7 country-made pistols, 42 live bullets, 2 daggers, 2 satellite phones and 4 grenades were recovered from the 5 suspected terrorists arrested by Central Crime Branch (CCB), Karnataka.

Police Commissioner Shares Details On The Arrests

Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda addressed the media and shared the details on the arrests made in connection with the case. Giving information on all the accused held, he said that they belong to the age group of 25 to 35. All were convicted in a murder case along with 16 others when they brutally killed on of their rivals, Noor Ahmed, few years back.

Further giving more information on the individuals, Dayananda said that they spent around 18 months in prison after being convicted. They then came in contact with T Naseer, who was accused in the 2008 blasts. Naseer influenced the individuals to carry out terrorist activities in the city and also helped them with foreign contacts and resources.

Mastermind On the Run

Dayananda then stated that one more individual was involved in the planning of the attack. He named him as the mastermind of the attack, who probably fled to a foreign country before the arrests. He said that this was the man who arranged all the funding as well as the explosives from an international country and is still on the run.

All the arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was invoked on them, said Commissioner Dayananda. He also lauded the work of the Crime Branch Officials for swift investigation and capture of the suspects averting a major mishap in the city.
