Heartbreaking Farewell: Man Weds Dead Girlfriend Just Before Last Rites In Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj

The woman, identified as Priyanka Madhesiya, was found hanging in her room after a disagreement with her fiancé, Sunny Madhesiya. The two had been in a relationship for three years, and both families had agreed to their marriage.

Maharajganj: In a rare and emotionally charged incident, a young man in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district married his deceased girlfriend just hours before her cremation. The couple was scheduled to be wed on November 29, but the woman died by suicide following a personal dispute.
According to police and local sources, the incident occurred in the Nichlaul area on Saturday night. The woman, identified as Priyanka Madhesiya, was found hanging in her room after a disagreement with her fiancé, Sunny Madhesiya. The two had been in a relationship for three years, and both families had agreed to their marriage. Upon hearing of Priyanka’s death, Sunny arrived at the house and expressed his desire to marry her before her final rites.

In a ceremony attended by both families and local residents, Sunny applied turmeric to Priyanka’s hands, dressed her in a red bridal saree, filled her hairline with vermilion, tied a mangalsutra, and walked seven symbolic circumambulations around the bier. Police confirmed that no complaint has been filed. Station in-charge Akhilesh Kumar Verma stated that an investigation is underway and that further action will depend on the post-mortem report.
