Assam Takes Major Leap In Advanced Healthcare, Partners With Medanta For Robotic Surgery At GMCH

Guwahati: The Government of Assam and Global Health Limited (Medanta) signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) today to establish a Centre of Excellence in Robotic Surgery at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

This partnership aims to advance surgical care in the state and supports the broader effort to transform GMCH into a modern mega hospital delivering cutting-edge healthcare services.

​Under the agreement, Medanta will provide advisory support on new technologies and evidence-based practices, while the collaboration focuses on clinical expertise, knowledge sharing, training, and capacity building. A detailed implementation plan is scheduled to be finalized within thirty days as the first step of the project. Joint monitoring and quality assurance will guide the initiative, positioning GMCH as a premier center for robotic surgery with advanced procedures expanding across multiple departments.

​The agreement stems from the healthcare vision of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which is being executed by Medical Education and Research Minister Ashok Singhal. Dr. Siddharth Singh, Commissioner and Secretary of the Medical Education and Research Department, signed the MoU on behalf of the Government of Assam. Representatives from Global Health Limited included Biswajeet Deka, Jayanta Kalita, and Rohan Abraham.
