Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's iconic sea-facing bungalow Mannat, Bandra, owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, has come under the radar of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Forest Department following a complaint of alleged violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms.
According to media reports, officials from both departments carried out an inspection of the actor's sprawling 27,000-square-foot property, located at Bandra Bandstand, to verify if any construction had been undertaken without the necessary permissions.
Reports have stated that the inspection was conducted to assess whether any renovation or expansion activity around the property had breached CRZ guidelines, which are intended to prevent unauthorised development in environmentally sensitive coastal areas.
Mannat is currently undergoing a two-year-long renovation. According to reports, the makeover includes expanding the bungalow's annexe by adding two additional floors.
A forest department official confirmed to TOI on Saturday (June 21), "A team did carry out a site inspection as we received a complaint about renovation permissions. A report will be prepared based on the findings and submitted soon."
BMC officials also reportedly confirmed their involvement, stating that they were supporting the forest officers during the visit. They added that a detailed inspection report is being prepared, and if any violations are detected, appropriate notices will be issued to the concerned parties.
However, Shah Rukh's manager, Pooja Dadlani, refuted all allegations of illegal activity. Speaking to the news portal, she said, "There are no complaints. All work is going on as per guidelines."
The controversy was triggered after social activist Santosh Daundkar filed a complaint, accusing the actor and the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) of violating CRZ rules. According to a Bar & Bench report, he has also approached the National Green Tribunal (NGT) against Shah Rukh and the state authority.
Daundkar further alleged that the actor had committed fraud by merging twelve 1-BHK flats, originally intended for mass housing, into a single residence for personal use, a move he claims violates urban planning norms.
While the renovation at Mannat is underway, the actor, along with his family, Gauri Khan, Aryan Khan, Suhana Khan, and AbRam Khan, has moved to lavish duplex apartments in Pali Hill. Reportedly, he pays a monthly rent of Rs 24.15 lakh for both the apartments combined, amounting to an annual rent of Rs 2.90 crore.
