Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, starring Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, and Kirron Kher, was released in 2006. The movie received mixed to positive reviews and did reasonably well at the box office. Now, recently, in an interview with The Week, the filmmaker revealed that they are adapting the movie into a long-form series.
When he was asked if he would like to make a series on one of his films, Karan said, "We are actually. Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, we are adapting it into a long-form series. It was released in 2006 to very polarised responses. I had many people come up to me and ask me whether I was unwell after that film because they said, 'How can you endorse infidelity?' And I was like, 'How can you endorse something that's already sold out?'."
Karan Johar On Response That KANK Received
While talking about KANK, Karan further shared an incident where a couple left the theatre after watching a scene from the film. He recollected, "I still remember when I was watching the film with an audience, a day prior to its release, and there was a very traditional couple watching the film. There's a moment in the film where Shah Rukh and Rani check into a hotel room, and a lady, who had come with her husband, turned dramatically to her husband, and he very calmly said, 'It's a dream sequence'. After five minutes, they realised that it was not a dream sequence, and then they got up and left."
The filmmaker further said, "I realised that we are in such a polarised audience base that judges what happens in their homes. They forget, they brush it under the carpet, but they don't want to watch it on celluloid. Even though it is probably a reality in their own home. Nobody wants to watch what's true to their own life."
