Mumbai: Students and parents of a private school in Chembur staged a road blockade on Wednesday, protesting against the lack of an alternative arrangement for students after the school building was declared unsafe. The protest on RC Marg led to a major traffic jam in the area for nearly 30 to 45 minutes.
Sind Cosmopolitan High School Faces Safety Concerns Over Building Condition
The Sind cosmopolitan high school, located near Maroli church area of Chembur, has reportedly been operating from a building that is in a dangerous condition. Despite the safety concerns, classes were being conducted on the premises as an alternative location had not been made available.
According to parents, incidents of ceiling slabs falling had occurred at the school while classes were in progress. After students informed their parents about the incidents, some parents visited the school to inspect the premises. Following the inspection, parents objected to students being sent to the unsafe building and demanded that the school make arrangements at an alternative location.
Lack Of Immediate Alternative Venue Leads To Road Blockade
The school was unable to immediately provide an alternative venue. With no immediate solution forthcoming, students and parents gathered on RC Marg and staged a road blockade, demanding that classes be shifted to a safer location.

The protest caused significant disruption on RC Marg, which already experiences heavy traffic. The gathering of students and parents brought traffic to a standstill for around half an hour to 45 minutes.
Police Intervene To Clear Road And Restore Traffic Movement
Police personnel subsequently reached the spot and intervened to clear the road and restore traffic movement.
Parents have maintained that the safety of students should take precedence and that children should not be required to attend classes in a building considered unsafe. They have demanded that the authorities and school management make suitable alternative arrangements until the safety concerns are addressed.
