Adani Defence Partners With Sparton, First In India To Offer Indigenous Sonobuoys

Ahmedabad: In a major move to boost India’s defence strength, Adani Defence & Aerospace has signed a new agreement with Sparton, a US-based company known for its advanced underwater defence systems. Sparton is part of Elbit Systems, a global leader in defence technology.

With this partnership, Adani Defence becomes the first private company in India to offer indigenous sonobuoy solutions. This is a big step towards making India more self-reliant in defence, especially in the area of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW).

Sonobuoys are special electronic devices used to detect submarines and other underwater threats. They help the Navy find and track enemy submarines, and are very important for keeping our seas safe. Until now, India has mostly imported these systems from other countries. This partnership will help change that.

The project supports the Indian government’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (self-reliant India) and ‘Make in India’ missions by producing these advanced defence systems within India for the Indian Navy—and even for export in the future.

Jeet Adani, Vice President of Adani Enterprises, said that in today’s tense maritime environment, it's vital for India to have strong and smart underwater defence systems. He added that this partnership will provide world-class, India-made sonobuoys that are ready to use and meet global standards.

Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, said that this collaboration brings world-leading technology to India and helps the country reduce its reliance on imports in this crucial area.

Donnelly Bohan, President and CEO of Sparton, said that Sparton is excited to work with Adani to build and assemble these devices in India. He believes this will also help develop high-tech skills and create local jobs in the defence sector.

Overall, this deal is a big step forward in building India’s underwater defence capability and strengthening its position as a defence manufacturing hub.
