Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): March has brought an unexpected cold wave to Madhya Pradesh, with temperatures in Bhopal and Jabalpur plummeting below 10 degrees Celsius. This marks the coldest March in the last decade for these cities. Thirteen districts, including Rajgarh, Umaria, and Khajuraho, recorded minimum temperatures between 6 and 9.8 degrees Celsius.

IMD Bhopal stated that the cold spell has been triggered by northern winds affecting the region over the past few days. However, with wind speeds now reducing and a shift in wind direction, the cold wave is expected to subside. The next three days will experience mild cold conditions, after which temperatures are expected to rise, bringing a warmer day and night.

City-Wise Temperature Report

The coldest regions recorded on Wednesday-Thursday night were:

Girwar (Shajapur) & Kalyanpur (Shahdol): 6°C

Talun (Barwani): 7.5°C

Sehore: 7.8°C

Mandla & Nowgaon: 8°C

Malajkhand: 8.1°C

Umaria: 8.2°C

Rajgarh: 8.4°C

Khajuraho: 9°C

Major cities recorded the following temperatures:

Bhopal: 9.8°C

Ujjain: 9°C

Jabalpur: 9.6°C

Indore: 10.8°C

Gwalior: 11.6°C

Despite the dip in nighttime temperatures, a slight increase in daytime temperatures was observed, though cold winds persisted.

No Rain Forecast, Temperature to Rise Gradually

Scientists at IMD Bhopal stated that no rainfall is expected in Madhya Pradesh this week. The sky will remain clear, leading to a gradual rise in temperature. By mid-March, some cities may experience daytime temperatures soaring to 40 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures exceeding 18 degrees Celsius.

Western Disturbance to Impact Weather Post-March 9

A Western Disturbance is expected to be active over the western Himalayan region from March 9. Its impact on Madhya Pradesh may be visible two days later. However, no rainfall is expected due to this phenomenon.

April-May Expected to Be the Hottest Months

Meteorologists predict that April and May will bring extreme heat across Madhya Pradesh. Cities such as Gwalior, Chambal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions may witness temperatures surpassing 45°C. Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Narmadapuram will also experience intense heat.

Weather Forecast for the Next Two Days:

March 7: Clear skies in Bhopal and other regions, with daytime temperatures hovering around 30°C. Night temperatures will show a slight increase.

March 8: A minor increase in both day and night temperatures, with no rainfall expected.

A Season of Mixed Weather in Madhya Pradesh

Historical data from the last decade suggests that March in Madhya Pradesh is marked by cold nights, hot days, and occasional rainfall. This year follows the same pattern. Cities like Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain are likely to experience maximum temperatures crossing 40°C, while nighttime temperatures will range between 10-17°C.

Among the most volatile weather regions, Gwalior has shown the most dramatic changes, with nighttime temperatures dropping as low as 8°C. Meanwhile, Jabalpur continues to balance warm days with chilly nights.

As Madhya Pradesh transitions from a cold wave to summer heat, residents should prepare for a rapid increase in temperature over the coming weeks.
