Bhopal: Vyapam whistle-blower Rai gets bail in case filed by official in MP CM's secretariat

Rai, an ophthalmologist, was arrested on Thursday in Delhi and brought here the next day after a case was filed on the complaint of Laxman Singh Markam, deputy secretary in the CM's secretariat.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): District and Sessions Court here has granted bail to Vypam whistle-blower Dr Anand Rai on Saturday in a case lodged against him for dragging OSD at CMO Laxman Singh Markam in MPTET paper leak.

Judge Kamal Joshi has granted bail on furnishing surety of Rs 50,000, according to prosecution officials. The CM OSD Laxman Singh was present in the court to oppose the bail petition of Dr Anand Rai. Dr Anand Rai, in his bail application, told the court, he has no personal enmity with OSD Laxman Singh Markam.

The case of defamation and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered on the basis of complaint of CM OSD Laxman Singh Markam after the latter’s name was dragged in MPTET paper leak.

After screen shot of MP TET question paper went viral on social media in which name of Laxman Singh was visible in screen shot, Dr Rai demanded to know who was this Laxman Singh. After this, Laxman Singh Markam, posted as OSD had lodged an FIR against Dr Anand Rai.

District Prosecutor Officer (DPO) Rajendra Upadhyaya said, “Dr Rai has been granted bail on surety of Rs 50,000. Dr Rai was produced in specially designated court of Kamal Joshi in afternoon after his one-day police remand ended on Saturday.”

Dr Rai was arrested from Delhi on Thursday night after High Court dismissed his petition, which he had filed requesting the court to quash FIR registered against him for dragging CM OSD Laxman Singh Markam’s name in alleged MP TET paper leak.

Laxman Singh had lodged FIR for making caste-based comments under SC/ST (Prevention of atrocities) Act. Dr Rai approached High Court to get FIR quashed but HC dismissed his petition on Thursday.

Dr Rai, who was posted as medical officer in Indore, has been suspended. During his suspension, Dr Rai has been attached to Rewa.

According to police, FIR was registered on March 27 against Dr Anand Rai under Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation), 470 (forged document), 500 (defamation), 504 (criminal intimidation), 120 b (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of IPC. In addition, police have also invoked SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
